Blind Painting

I came across this video through the E}V Blog. It’s a film about Sargy Mann, a painter, who became gradually blind and then ended up doing his best paintings once he had turned completely blind.

I’m fascinated by the way he uses a stick to feel the dimensions of the canvas. He must be able to feel the wetness of the brush too, or hear it, or maybe just feel for how long he’s been using it for before reloading it. I was thinking ‘I wish I could do that’ but I don’t wish myself blind! It’s a skill that I hope I never will have to have. Not that I’d have to paint if I became blind, but you know what I mean.

I’m in awe of the blind artists in the world.
